Florida has over 20 million residents, and is one of the top vacation destinations for millions of visitors each year. But toxics are contaminating Florida’s water supply and threatening the health of residents and visitors alike. Florida’s Governor and State Legislature have consistently sided with industry over protecting public health or the environment. Over the last decade the trend has been one of expediting permits for polluters, failing to develop protective regulatory policies that monitor and enforce already weak laws, and turning a blind eye to requests from communities to protect them from pollution. But brave legislators and citizens are stepping up, supporting bills that could provide information about the most toxic chemicals in consumer products, and protect vulnerable populations.
